Unbroken Hours Development Updates
Current Project: Princess of Ruin

toudou:

So I looked in my inbox today to find that the demo for Princess of Ruin is now available to those who have it pre-ordered. Unfortunately I can’t say that it was a fun, exciting or suspenseful demo. I didn’t really see enough of the three characters introduced to grow attached to them (however I did get a chuckle out of the physical resemblance between Cyraen and a certain other doll carrying character from That Otome Game - that’s where their resemblance ends, though)  and the pacing of the story feels slow but at the very least, I suppose the mystery of who they all are and why they’re there does intrigue me enough to anticipate the full game. Hopefully it’ll be like the creator’s first game/Frozen Essence in that it has a slow start but picks up slightly better towards the end. That said, even if it still looks slightly awkward (like that cg sample on the top right)  the creator’s art definitely significantly improved from their original work. The music selection in this demo unfortunately isn’t very impressive, though I suppose it’s also understandable why they feel dull since the events in the demo are mostly lull-ish moments, the only exceptions being the start and end of the demo.

That’s mostly my experience, though and you might have a different one, so if you also preordered this game, you might want to go to your inbox and try it for yourself and see how you feel too!

Thanks for the feedback. I’ll fix that problematic CG and think about making the final demo longer. :)

Anonymous → I have a question about the colors in Heartstring Bugs. Do the green sparkles represent happiness? And also, what do the regular sparkles (the one that appear around characters' heads) and the lines represent? Thank you

They range from happiness, excitement, attraction/attractiveness, etc.

The vertical, grey lines represent the feeling of doom or hopelessness.

I just added four CGs are added to the site gallery. Tell me what you think!

There will be a minimum of 50 CGs in total. You may have noticed I wrote 50+ CGs on the website. It’s because I sometimes add new images if the future scenes really need it. The final number may be more than what I planned. ^_~

Anonymous → Hello I'm really loving Heartstring Bugs. What is the success/fail rate on skills though? I noticed my character fails literally 80% of the time, just 'fail!' after 'fail!'. Is there a way to change it?

Hi. I programmed it so there’s a default rate of failure by 20%. If one were to avoid the default failure rate…

The rest is dependent your stress rate and a randomizer. The randomizer will choose a number between 1 and your stress number. Any number 30 and below will result in success. Any number above 31 results in failure.

For example, if your stress is 60, the randomizer will be choosing a random number between 1 and 60. There is a 50% chance of failure here because number 1-30 mean success. And numbers 31-60 means failure.

I guess in summary, keep your stress below 30 and it will be easier to succeed. =).

Sorry if that sounds strange. It’s the simplest I can explain it at the moment.

Hey guys. This is what I’m currently working on.

It’s a log of important facts for those that forget what things mean later on in the story. They’ll unlock as you encounter them. It’s a tad messy right now. I’m rewording and shortening the descriptions so it doesn’t feel like info dump when you click.

And here’s the music room. Each track will unlock when you hear them. ^_^

I’m currently working on CGs for a mid January update, for pre-order previews, and for a promotional video. Our musician ExPsyle is working on music for the video.

I’d like to put out the video right away but I must apologize in advance. I’m a tad slow right now. With the art and quality I want to put in the video, it will take a bit of time to get it right. I’m also fiddling with a good video program. Our musician is also working with other indie groups so I get the music when she is free. She has already given me so many sounds and I’m happy that I can get a full soundtrack to enhance this project.

Once I get that track, I can finish planning out the video and make it. It’ll help give you guys the mood of Princess of Ruin, especially for those unfamiliar with my works. Our musician has finished fifteen music track so far. There’s five more to go!

For the January updates, I’ll be able to show off more art. =D

I understand your concern. Others will probably wonder as well. It’ll be sometime in mid 2014. I’ll change that on the image soon. I left it as TBA for a while so it was something I overlooked when I finalized everything else.

Cools, I’ve seen so many games with TBA that basically took the money and ran (mostly on Kickstarter) that I tend to be a bit cautious with companies I don’t know.

The story sounds interesting so I’ll keep my eye on it, I might do a pre-order, but I’d also like a demo first because I’m picky with my otome games. (I like more fluffy guys over scary-creepy-abusive guys like Amnesia, Diabolik Lovers, even Hakuoki)

That’s no problem. I understand, especially with the number of Kickstarter projects that disappear.  I’d like to post more content like the bigger, well-known companies myself. I know some people prefer demos before making any decisions. If you have any concerns, feel free to pm me or email me. I’d like to do my best but sometime I can overlook little things, like the TBA part.

You could post videos of game play snippets like Rejet has done with Dot Kareshi and Sanctuary (SanctuaryOFFICIAL on Youtube, makers of Chronostacia) of the various guys talking with each other and such. That would be a big help for me (and others) in also making a decision to pre-order/buy the game :3 Get a feel for the characters.

Thanks for the link. I’ll take a look at them. =)
